Liposuction & BBL in Turkey
About This Treatment
Liposuction removes localised fat deposits from specific areas of the body — the abdomen, flanks, thighs, arms, back and chin are among the most common sites. It is not a weight loss procedure, and it works best for patients who are close to their target weight but have areas that don’t respond to lifestyle changes. The procedure sculpts and redefines rather than reduces overall size, and the results — once swelling resolves — are permanent in the sense that the removed fat cells do not return. Maintaining a stable weight post-procedure is important to preserve the outcome.
A BBL uses fat harvested during liposuction, processes it and reinjections it into the buttocks to add volume, improve shape and create a more defined silhouette. Because the material is your own fat rather than an implant, the results feel and move naturally. Not all harvested fat survives the transfer — typically around sixty to seventy percent integrates permanently — which is factored into the volume injected. Turkey has become one of the most active destinations for both procedures, with surgeons who perform high volumes of cases and clinics equipped to the standard these surgeries require. At Medivoyage, patient safety is the non-negotiable starting point — we only work with facilities and surgeons whose standards we are confident in.
Suitable candidates for liposuction are adults who are in good general health, at or near a stable target weight, and have specific areas of localised fat that haven’t responded to diet and exercise. Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity. For a BBL, sufficient donor fat is required — patients who are very lean may not have enough fat available for a meaningful transfer. Your surgeon will assess your body composition, skin elasticity and goals during consultation and advise honestly on what is achievable and appropriate for your situation.
Most patients stay in Turkey for seven to ten days following body contouring surgery. The first few days involve swelling, bruising and discomfort that is managed with prescribed medication. Compression garments are worn for several weeks post-operatively — these are important for shaping the outcome and supporting healing. For BBL specifically, sitting directly on the buttocks is restricted for approximately two to four weeks to protect the transferred fat during the critical integration period. Most patients return to desk-based work within two to three weeks and resume normal physical activity at six to eight weeks.
The fat cells removed during liposuction do not regenerate — so in that sense, yes, the results are permanent. However, remaining fat cells in the treated area can still expand if significant weight is gained post-procedure. Maintaining a stable weight is the most important factor in preserving your results long-term. Patients who undergo liposuction as part of a broader commitment to their health and fitness tend to be the most satisfied with their outcomes over time.
Because the volume comes from your own fat rather than a synthetic implant, the results of a well-performed BBL look and feel natural — the tissue moves, compresses and responds exactly as natural fat does. The aesthetic outcome depends on how the fat is distributed during injection, which is where your surgeon’s technique and artistic judgement matter. During consultation, your surgeon will discuss the shape and projection you’re aiming for and give you a realistic picture of what your anatomy allows.
The BBL has historically carried a higher risk profile than many other cosmetic procedures, primarily due to the risk of fat embolism if fat is injected into deep tissue layers. Over the past several years, updated surgical guidelines — including injecting only into the subcutaneous layer rather than the muscle — have significantly reduced this risk when followed correctly. This is precisely why the choice of surgeon and facility matters so much for this procedure. The clinics we work with follow current safety protocols as standard, and your surgeon will walk you through the approach and the safeguards in place before you proceed.
