Veneers & Crowns in Turkey
About This Treatment
A veneer is a thin porcelain shell bonded to the front surface of a tooth. It’s primarily a cosmetic solution, used to correct discolouration that doesn’t respond to whitening, chips, cracks, minor misalignment, or teeth that are uneven in shape or size. Because only a thin layer of enamel is removed in preparation, the tooth structure is largely preserved. A crown, by contrast, covers the entire tooth. It’s used when a tooth is significantly damaged, weakened by decay or a large filling, or has undergone root canal treatment — restoring both its appearance and its structural integrity.
Turkey has become one of the most sought-after destinations for both treatments, largely because the quality of materials and the skill of cosmetic dentists at leading clinics is genuinely high — and the accessibility makes it possible for patients who might otherwise delay or avoid treatment to actually get it done. At Medivoyage, we work with clinics that use internationally recognised materials and follow strict protocols, and our team is with you throughout so there are no surprises along the way.
The main distinction is how much of the tooth is covered and why. Veneers cover only the front surface and are suited to teeth that are structurally sound but cosmetically imperfect. Crowns encase the entire tooth and are used when there is structural damage, significant decay or a need to restore strength alongside appearance. In some cases — particularly in a smile makeover — both may be used on different teeth within the same treatment plan. Your dentist will assess each tooth individually and recommend the most appropriate restoration.
The most commonly used material at our partner clinics is zirconia or porcelain-fused-to-zirconia — both known for their strength, durability and highly natural appearance. These materials reflect light in a way that closely mimics natural tooth enamel, making it very difficult to distinguish a well-made crown or veneer from a natural tooth. Your dentist will also match the shade carefully to your surrounding teeth or, if you’re having a full set, to a shade you agree on together.
Most veneer and crown treatments involve two visits. During the first, your teeth are prepared, impressions are taken and temporary restorations are fitted. Your permanent restorations are then fabricated — this typically takes one to two weeks. On your second visit, the temporaries are removed and the final restorations are bonded or cemented in place. The second visit is usually straightforward and completed within a day.
Porcelain veneers typically last ten to fifteen years. Zirconia crowns can last fifteen years or more with proper care. The main factors affecting longevity are oral hygiene, avoiding habits like nail biting or using teeth to open packaging, and attending regular dental check-ups. If a veneer or crown does chip or become loose over time, it can usually be repaired or replaced without affecting the surrounding teeth.
Both procedures are carried out under local anaesthesia, so you won’t feel pain during the preparation or fitting. Some sensitivity in the days following — particularly to temperature — is common and settles quickly. Temporary restorations protect the prepared teeth between visits and are designed to feel comfortable during the interim period. Your dentist will advise on what to expect and what to avoid while your permanent restorations are being made.
